Town Office > Elections > Voting

The polls are open in the Town of Carmel on Election Day from 8:00 AM
to 8:00 PM for Primary, General & Referendum and Presidential elections.
Town Election polls are open from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

If you are not registered to vote or your name does not appear on the incoming voter list please speak to the Registrar of Voters. This will be the first person on the incoming line of election workers. Maine is a very open election State and so long as you can prove your residency in Carmel you can register to vote on the day of the election.

After the Registrar will be seated an election worker with the Incoming Voter List state to them your full name and physical address (John Q Citizen, 22 Honey Bee Lane) and a check will be placed next to your name. Step forward and the next Election Clerk will issue you the ballot - proceed to the first open voting booth. Do not open or discuss the ballot while waiting for a booth and do not go beyond the end of the table until a booth is available.

Mark your ballot with the provided pencil with a V or X. If you mark your ballot incorrectly ie: checked the wrong box or too many, etc. carry your ballot back to the incoming table and you will be issued a new ballot. A voter may be given three (3) ballots.

After voting carry your ballot to the ballot box. The Election Clerk stationed there will slide the slot cove back an allow you to cast your ballot. You may then leave the building or stop and visit any of the tables with items for sale or petitions to be signed. Remember never impede a voters way in or out of the voting line.
